Many years ago, I had the privilege of working in a recording studio, and it was quite the experience. The building itself was absolutely amazing in how it was designed specifically for what was being done in that building. Currently, the building has now ceased to be used for recording and is now some sort of medical office. Knowing that I'd never be able to give my wife or my daughter a tour of this cool facility I got to work and I thought it would be a cool idea to try to re-create it in 3-D and make a virtual recording studio that someone could actually walk through an experience again.

Project Blog Updates:

Tools i’m using:

I used ProCreate on my iPad Pro so combine a few very small, low resolution images I had for parts of the floorpan, and drew out the rest.

I’m using Gravity Sketch natively on the Meta Quest Pro. I brought in the Floorplan, and i’m building on top of that.

Blender

I’ll be using Blender eventually once I’m wrapped up in Gravity Sketch.

History

Yamaha:

The building was first constructed in 1979. Built by Yamaha to be used as their research and development lab, was at one time one of the most high tech, sophisticated studios in existence. I’ve been told that it’s possible the famous Yamaha NS-10’s were first tested and developed in this building, but that’s entirely speculation. Yamaha used the studio with their label, recording artists. My guess, is that artists were allowed to use the prototype equipment if they gave feedback on it. From what I understand, and it’s hard to find a lot of history about this building but i’ve learned that because the studio cranked out so many hits, Yamaha made money off of it, and lost their tax status on it, and decided to sell it.

Aire L.A.

Sadly, I do not know very much about Aire L.A. yet.

Front Page Recorders

Front Page, I think was originally located in Costa Mesa, but from what I gather, they set up another studio in this building.

The Studio at the time was run by a guy named Biff Vincent.

Broken Wave Music

Fresh out of going to school at the Conservatory recording arts and sciences I started an internship in eventually employment at Broken Wave Music. This is where I first got to check this cool building out.
